Nutrition or Exercise

Of course you don’t have to choose one or the other, BUT, if you want to lose fat and see the muscle that you already have on your frame, which would you choose?

A lot of people commit pretty regularly to an exercise routine, but largely neglect their nutrition.

Have you been going to the same gym for years, and noticed that almost everyone looks about the same as they did when they first joined? Kinda weird, right? Why is that? Are they all exactly where they want to be? Do they all have the physique of their dreams? Shouldn’t we get noticeably more fit based on being at the gym 4-5-6 days a week?

Most people I know do some sort of exercise every day, or at least a few days a week. They believe that going to the gym, going for a run, or taking a nice bike ride is going to change their body and give them the shape they ultimately desire. Here is the ugly and brutal truth.

Going to the gym, even every single day, won’t get you fit, if your nutrition is not aligned.

In order to lose weight, you must be in a caloric deficit. Read that again. I didn’t say in order to lose weight, you must exercise. While I love and highly recommend exercise, it is not the primary way to lose weight. It really is as simple as burning more calories each day than you consume. Basal Metabolic Rate is how many calories you burn at rest. BMR is how much energy you need to keep your vital functions going. Total Daily Energy Expenditure is how many calories you burn with ALL activity included. TDEE minus 500 calories should result in a weight loss of about 1 pound a week. (7 days x 500 calorie deficit daily = -3500 calories =- 1 pound) TDEE minus 1000 calories should result in a weight loss of 2 pounds a week. This is about the maximum amount of pounds you should strive to lose in one week if you want to do it in a healthy manner and have a better chance of keeping the weight off long term. If you exercise, your TDEE is higher, and you get to eat more food. If you dont exercise, you get to eat less, but the formula still holds true. If you create a nutrition plan that puts you in a daily caloric defecit, and you follow it, you should consistently lose weight week after week. You can do this whether or not you exercise.

So my simple answer to the question"; “Nutrition or Exercise” in order to lose fat and see the muscle already on your frame is “Nutrition”. Please contact me if you need help creating a healthy nutrition plan with a caloric defecit.
